Downhill Worship - An Introduction

Skip SchwarzThis unique workshop format divides a worship service into three stops going down a ski trail (Bear Claw - all abilities). We start on the deck of the Summit Cafe at 11 AM. In planning to join us, you'll need to allow at least 1/2 hour for lifts and lines (another 15 minutes during Christmas and February vacation weeks and Martin Luther King weekend.)

To reach the Summit Cafe, you can either take the gondola (the most direct route) or either the Seven Brothers chairlift or teh Kancamagus Quad and then catch the East Basin chair to the top.

The service starts at the top with an introduction, followed by a call to worship, a prayer, a couple of hymns and a scripture reading. We then grab our skis/snowboards and proceed down Bear Claw to a clearing on the right for the message (the length of which is directly determined by the temperature). After the message we proceed to Grand Jct, the mid-way point on the mountain, where we gather around the sign pointing to L. Picked Rock. Forming into 3 or 4 rows, the service concludes with a closing time of prayer and then a group picture (a 5x7 copy is provided free of charge to all participants).

From our final stop, participants can access either of the mountain's two base areas and since this is a skiing/riding service, a lift ticket is required.
